Jack the Giraffe & The Bucket List
I read this book several years ago called The 4:8 Principle by Tommy Newberry and one of the things
the author encouraged to do is to make a list of all the things you’ve ever
want to do, have, or be-so I did. Me being me then divided my list into categories
after I was done and now I have several lists-one of them being my “Dream To
Do” list. You may have something like this already. Maybe your list is written
down or maybe it’s just a list of stuff swimming through your head. Some people
call their dream “to do” list their Bucket List or list of things they want to
do before they kick the bucket.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have been able to check off
some things on my bucket list. That’s the beauty of having it written down. I
recommend you write yours down and look at it often. Out of sight, out of mind
is true but so is the opposite. The more you have something in your sight, the
more likely you are to make it happen.
Some things leave my list from time to time because they
aren’t important to me anymore and some things get added because they seem like
great new adventures to have. Some things will never be removed because they’ve
been in my heart for many years.
One such thing at the very top of my list is to touch a
Giraffe. I love giraffes! I think they are awesome. Recently we took a trip to
the North Carolina ZOO and you can pay to go up on the giraffe observation deck
to see them closer. I had done this before but no giraffes came my way. But on
this day there was a giraffe eating lettuce out of the hand of the trainer.
Yay! I actually got to feed and touch the giraffe, Jack, on the nose!
Not only was it fun to be there with Giraffe Jack-it was
almost as exhilarating to check off item #1 on my Bucket List. To commemorate
the event I even got a wooden giraffe from the gift shop.
Will I touch more giraffes in my lifetime? I sure hope so!
But with that one act I got the ball rolling on my lifetime of giraffe
friendships. You see, when you do something that Is a dream and make it a
reality you realize it’s actually possible to do all those things that are
really important to you. Walt Disney said “It’s fun to do the impossible.”
Guess what? It is!
But you’ve got to get up, go to the zoo, pay the extra
dollar, and actually walk to Jack the Giraffe with the lettuce. You’ve got to
take some action.
What about you? What’s your #1 on your Bucket List? You know
what’s holding you back? Probably nothing but you. Get out of your own way and
go kick that Bucket…list. Um, metaphorically speaking.
I HIGHLY recommend this book! Get it here:
